Overview

Translay ("we", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the Translay application.

Information We Collect and How We Use It

We collect and use only what is necessary to provide the app:

  • On-device only: Screenshots and images are processed locally by OCR. They are never uploaded.
  • Translation: Only the OCR-extracted text (no images) is sent to the translation service to provide translations.
  • AI follow-up feature: Only when you use this feature, we send the data described below to DeepSeek (our AI service provider), after you have given permission.
  • Usage count: A usage counter is synced via iCloud to manage free-tier limits. We do not collect personally identifiable information.

Third-Party AI Service — What We Send and Who Receives It

When you use the AI follow-up feature, the app may send the following to DeepSeek (our third-party AI service provider):

  • What data: The text of your follow-up question and the translation context (e.g. source and translated text) needed to answer it. No images or screenshots are sent.
  • Who receives it: DeepSeek. You will see this name in the app when you enable the feature and before any data is sent.
  • When we send it: Only after you have been clearly informed and have given your permission. The app will not send data to the AI service without your consent.

We do not store your AI conversations. Transmissions to DeepSeek use encrypted channels (HTTPS/TLS). Our agreement with DeepSeek requires that they protect your data with the same or equal level of protection and do not use it for training their models on your content.

Local Processing

Translay's OCR (Optical Character Recognition) runs entirely on your device. Your screenshots and images are never uploaded to any server.

Translation Service

To provide translations, we send OCR-recognized text (text only, no images) through encrypted channels to the translation service (DeepL). This text is not stored or used for other purposes.

AI Follow-Up Feature

When you use the AI follow-up feature, the app will explain what data is sent and to whom (DeepSeek), and will ask for your permission before sending any data. Only after you consent will translation-related text be sent through encrypted channels to DeepSeek. We do not store your conversations.

Usage Data

We only sync your usage counter via iCloud to manage free quotas. We do not collect, store, or share any personally identifiable information.

Data Security

All network transmissions use HTTPS/TLS encryption. We do not maintain a user database or store any translation content or personal information.

Third-Party Services

Translay uses the following third-party services:

  • DeepL — Translation service. Only OCR text is sent; not stored for other purposes.
  • DeepSeek — AI follow-up feature only, when you have given permission. We require that they provide the same or equal protection for your data and do not use it to train models.
  • Apple iCloud — Usage count synchronization.
  • Cloudflare — API proxy and security.

Children's Privacy

Translay is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updated policies will be posted on this page.
